About us  My thanks to John Drescher whose "Parable of the fishless fishermen" was the inspiration behind my poem. I hope that this story will enable you to express great things of God in your life as you draw others heavenward.                                        -Tim Czapiewski -

"There once was a place exceedingly fair,

Lakes and streams covered the land.

And a group of people existed there,

     Some called them fishermen”.

“To the fishermen’s clubs they all would meet,

For great speakers they wished to hear.

They met together week by week,

And the weeks passed into years”.

“The speakers arose with poles in hand,

     And declared the fisherman’s way.

And when they bore the message strong,

The crowds would clap with praise”.

“Then all the speakers with one accord,

     Expressed their one great wish.

But their message seemed to be ignored,

     For no one ever fished”.

“Now wise men existed in those bright days,

Some had great thoughts to give.

     “Let’s send fishermen far away,

Where fish of dark shades live”.

“Great plans were devised by other wise men,

But their work was to define.

“Let others do the fishing job,

For fishing we have no time”.

“The fishermen’s children all were sent,

     To the schools of fishology.

Where they learned to be intelligent,

     In fish psychology”.

“Where is your catch you PhD's”,

     Asked an inquisitive journalist.

But those learned teachers coldly replied,

“Sir, if you please, we have no time to fish”!

“Now legend speaks of one young man,

     Who finally saw the light.

So he gathered together his fishing gear,

And went out to fish one night”.

“And the news it spread for a catch was made!

     He caught two outstanding beauties!

But he soon laid aside his fishing gear,

     To take up speaking duties”.

“Yes all the speakers with one accord,

     Expressed their one great wish.

But their message seemed to be ignored,

     For no one ever fished”.

There is a law at work within our human nature and has prevailed in us since man’s creation. Once you understand how this law works, you can see its activity in the world around you. The law is stated as follows; “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matthew 12:34).

It is the law of expression. Man cannot help but speak to others about that which overflows from his heart. Think about it. If you had just been given a huge raise or a promotion at work, would you find someone to express your joy to? If your grade point average was so high that your name was added to the honor role, wouldn’t you joyfully show the results to your family and friends?

For good or for bad, this law of expression works within us. The first biblical instance of human expression is found in the Garden of Eden. Eve imagined that she had come to a higher place of existence after she had eaten the forbidden fruit. What was her next step? She sought out the one she loved and shared her deadly gift with him.

Take some time to reflect about what you have expressed today. Did you speak of the pain and injury others caused you? Was the highlight of your day rejoicing in the great savings you found at the shopping mall? Or perhaps the amazing play you watched on the sports channel. My friend, if you look behind the scenes, Heaven is listening for expressions that will attract the lost to Jesus.

Expression is the great spiritual thermometer of the heart. Heaven judges you and I by the words we express and the actions they cause us to do. Examine the type of words that you express towards others and see if you are “in the faith”. “No sooner does one come to Christ than there is born in his heart a desire to make known to others what a precious friend he has found in Jesus; the saving and sanctifying truth cannot be shut up in his heart” (Steps to Christ - page 78).

Consider the starry heavens; God has appointed each star to travel upon its unique path. Likewise, the path God has appointed you to travel is unlike that of no other being alive.  Will you be as a Black Hole as you make your journey through life, existing only to attract others to your darkness or will you allow God’s saving light to shine forth from you? “They that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever” (Daniel 12:3).
